Resist Fascism & Imperialism! Build the Mass Movement and Forge Hope through Struggle!
Statement on the results of the 2024 U.S. elections
The U.S. election results are in. Donald Trump of the Republican Party has won, and with it, the threat of the rise of an openly fascist right. We have not forgotten what the previous Trump presidency meant for Filipinos and all exploited and oppressed people. Mass anti-worker, anti-immigrant, anti-women, anti-queer, and anti-people culture spread throughout the country. Direct support was given to ruthless fascists like Rodrigo Duterte, whom Trump personally called to commend him on his brutal drug war that killed over 30,000 people. Trump represents the rottenness and natural consequence of imperialism: fascism.
Despite distancing himself from Project 2025, we know that this is all a publicity stunt. His previous administration implemented over 60 percent of Project 2025’s equivalent from 2016, the “Mandate for Leadership” released by the very same Heritage Foundation. The contents of Project 2025 are the roadmap to more open fascism in the United States, and unchecked war abroad. We must organize to fight back.
But the solution to that fight is not within the Democratic Party. If the last year of ruthless genocide and economic crisis has crystalized anything for us, it is that the Democratic Party — despite looking and sounding like the better alternative to Trump — is not truly a party for the people, especially the working and oppressed. Harris was alongside Biden and the majority of her party in funding over 70 percent of Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people in the last year alone. They actively pushed further U.S. militarism in the Philippines, pouring hundreds of millions into interventions that have historically brought violence upon our people.
The solution is not with the Democrats, but within the mass movement that we must build.
As Filipinos living inside the most powerful imperialist country in the world, we carry a huge responsibility. The result of this election affects more than 4 million Filipinos in the U.S., but also countless people and countries around the world under the boot of U.S. imperialism. We have a duty to be vigilant, and to unite with other migrant and oppressed communities, especially our Arab Muslim siblings who are likely to face blame for the Democrat’s loss. Genocide is not an electoral strategy and all fault must be placed on the Democratic Party, not third party voters. We must fight for welfare instead of warfare, and for people’s rights instead of repression and genocide, especially under a Trump regime.
Both parties have continuously shown us that regular people are not their priority. The US elections may be over, but our duty to organize has never been more urgent. We must continue organizing for the issues that matter most to our community:
To end U.S. militarism, intervention, and basing in the Philippines that is dragging our people into a war we do not want.
To end the US-funded genocide in Palestine and to enact an immediate arms embargo
To build worker power and put an end to wage theft, unsafe working conditions, and exploitative contracts
To protect our migrant and immigrant communities from trafficking, deportation, and neglect from both the US and Philippine governments
To end violence on our community members fueled by anti-Asian hate and other forms of discrimination
To defend our women, queer, and trans community from attacks not just on reproductive rights, but their right to live
To give youth the future we deserve by investing in education, social services, housing, and food security instead of war.
As the economic crisis worsens and our rights & livelihood are under attack, our duty is to build people power. Not just for our own families but for people the world over and for generations to come.
Our best defense is people’s organizations, so join one like Anakbayan, GABRIELA, Migrante!
Be part of our campaigns: U.S. Out of the Philippines! Fight State Neglect and Plunder!
And join us on the streets this week for the International League of Peoples’ Struggle National Week of Action
Let us look to each other for solutions rather than elected officials. Hope is forged through struggle so let us unite and fight. Makibaka, huwag matakot!
